The inclusion of reptiles and birds, which might not be the first things readers picture when they think about the ocean, does a great job of subverting expectations. Well-chosen, vivid photographs of ocean life splash across the pages. The text is a little heavy and more technical, but there is still space to pause and marvel. VERDICT: The tapestry of life explained across these titles would be perfect for school and public libraries.
