ReviewedI See Butterflies introduces emergent readers to butterflies while providing them with a supportive first nonfiction reading experience. Carefully crafted text uses high-frequency words, repetitive sentence patterns, and strong visual references to support emergent readers, making sure they aren’t facing too many challenges at once.
I See Butterflies includes tools for teachers and caregivers as well as introductory nonfiction features such as labels, a table of contents, words to know, and an index.
I See Butterflies is part of Jump!’s Backyard Bugs series.
Stunning images of backyard bugs will engage and excite young readers in this highly appealing series. Each book begins with a short table of contents with color photographs of common bugs filling every page. Six types of bugs are described in each title, each shown in their natural habitats. The series presents concepts exceptionally well using eye-catching pictures and just one or two words per page. Plentiful repetition boosts the reader’s contextual understanding of words and concepts. The picture glossaries at the end of each book will advance comprehension, and an index will help young readers return to their favorite parts. VERDICT Striking color photographs and minimal text work together to create a strong offering for budding entomologists.
