ReviewedThe president is the leader of the United States! This person is tasked with making important decisions for the nation. In this text, leveled text and relevant photos introduce beginning readers to the basics about the duties of this civil servant. Special features include a job requirements graphic, a chart showing the branches of government, and a question for readers to consider.
'The Our Government series takes what can be a higher-level concept and brings it down to a level of understanding for even the youngest reader. Starting at the state level with Governor, the series also includes President, Vice President, The Senate, The House of Representatives, and The Supreme Court. The series is a Blastoff Readers level 1 series, so these books are targeted to Grades 1-3. They include predictable text, limited vocabulary, and strong visual support. The photos and color scheme will draw the reader into the book. The table of context, index and glossary will be a good introduction to text features for the earliest readers. Each book follows the pattern of explaining who the topic of the book is, what duties they are responsible for and concludes with why their job is important. This predictable format is helpful to early researchers.', Pam Zoller, School Librarian, Olathe Public Schools
