ReviewedShapes are everywhere! We see them at home, outside, and at school. This series introduces young readers to shapes and how to identify them through carefully leveled text and vibrant, labeled photographs. Each title features a list of sight words to help readers gain confidence in their reading skills and concludes with features that summarize what they have learned.
Shapes are everywhere! That’s the clear message of this concept series that hones visual literacy and discrimination skills and arouses alertness by stimulating children to be on the lookout for shapes in their everyday lives. Each volume opens with an alphabetical list of sight words, and new vocabulary is boldfaced and defined in the glossary. Racially and ethnically diverse kids and families are well represented, as are people with disabilities. As aids for this young audience, the relevant shapes are represented throughout by familiar, real-world items, such as foods, the moon, household objects, toys, and things commonly found in nature. Back matter includes an image-based review of the material, a picture glossary, a link to additional information, and an index. VERDICT: Recommended for schools and public library collections.
