These brief introductions use simple language to introduce various gods and goddesses. Each title begins with an overview of the pantheon followed by chapters on specific dieties. Each god has their own original illustration but the rest of the images are stock photos of ancient and modern art and architecture, such as temples. The chapters on each god cover the circumstances of their birth and usually one famous myth about them. Even though these stories are packaged for older elementary and middle school, they have a third- to fourth-grade reading level and interest level. VERDICT: These simple texts may serve as brief introductions to the mythology of different cultures.
