Washoe knows how to ask for what she wants. She may be a mere chimp, yet Washoe has learned to communicate with humans using American Sign Language. She can even form small sentences and ask simple questions using sign language. Young children will meet many brainy primates like Washoe in Chimpanzees, a fascinating nonfiction narrative that details how scientists have tested chimp intelligence—and discovered stunningly smart results.
